2023 Membership Survey Results
Tutkoran Dankon to all members who took the time to participate in the 2023 Membership Survey. Your contribution will play an important role in shaping the future strategies and initiatives of Esperanto-USA.
Here’s a summary of the survey’s findings:
-
Membership Composition: Our membership is composed predominantly of long-term (more than 10 years, 40%) and new members (1-3 years, 42%); mid-range membership (4-10 years, 19%) suggests a challenge in long-term engagement and retention.
-
Esperanto Proficiency: Language proficiency varies across our membership: beginner (19%), intermediate (43%), and advanced (39%). The level of intermediate proficiency highlights a notable plateau in progression and suggests more targeted educational material is needed to facilitate advancement in Esperanto.
-
International Usage: A significant majority of our members (85%) has used Esperanto for international communication, demonstrating the language’s practical benefits.
-
Interests and Activities: Members express a keen interest in cultural activities (e.g., literature, music, film, travel), suggesting the need for increased cultural events and special interest groups. These interests should also be considered when soliciting content for Usona Esperantisto.
-
Landa Kongreso Participation: Only 47% of members have attended a Landa Kongreso. Because congress attendance correlates with keeping members more engaged in other aspects of the organization, there should be an effort to boost participation.
-
Usona Esperantisto Reception: The newsletter enjoys positive reception, with an average rating of 4 out of 5. Members desire more frequent publication and more content diversity. Additionally, there is some confusion among readers pertaining to distribution formats that should be clarified.
-
Organizational Transparency: Inclusion of the Board Meeting minutes in Usona Esperantisto is well-received. About half of members (54%) report they read them, indicating that this approach is successful in providing visibility into the organization and promoting transparency.
-
Retbutiko Feedback: Members appreciate having an online store available, but a clear need exists for modernization and a more diverse product offering. Addressing these concerns could improve the retbutiko’s usefulness and its potential as a revenue generator.
-
Member Desires: Members expressed a strong desire for more diverse resources and activities, including increased support for local events, enhanced educational materials with a focus on improved online courses, and stronger Esperanto promotion efforts.
Once again, thank you for being an integral part of this process. The 2023 survey shows the membership is committed and engaged! Should you have any questions or further suggestions, don’t hesitate to contact us. Your feedback is always welcome.
