The newly formed international group Unitarian Universalist Esperanto Network (UUEN) has just been accepted as an associate member of the International Council of Unitarians and Universalists (ICUU). Since Esperanto is the basis of an evolving planetary community of millions of people committed to the ideals of peace, justice, friendship, and acceptance of diversity, it is a natural fit with one of the seven purposes of the Unitarian-Universalist Association, “the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all.”

At the global level, American Esperantists believe that it is unfair to require Unitarian-Universalists who use different national languages to learn English when Esperanto exists as a democratic alternative. That is especially true in the case of an international religious organization which faces the prospect of trying to use more and more different national languages as it expands into more and more countries.
