A smile is a nice non-verbal greeting to loved ones and strangers alike. Even babies are responsive to a smile. It is a signal of acceptance, safety, and help, and it feels so good to receive a smile.

The Amazon logo is a smile and we smile when we get a package from Amazon. Amazon goes much deeper than a smile on their packages and vans; they really do help — non-profits that is. When the customer is enrolled in Amazon Smile, 0.5% of the purchase price goes to a non-profit of the customer’s choice. As of Feb 2021, Amazon Smile has donated $241,928,506.19 to non-profits. They are serious.

This is a painless way to donate money. It is particularly beneficial to E-USA because we do not have money to put on impressive national fundraisers or offer spectacular giveaways. As it turns out, most of our fundraising efforts are targeted at our existing membership. Here is a way for our membership to donate without costing them a penny. It would be a great help to E-USA if our members would participate in Amazon Smile and their effect would be increased if their family and friends would help too.

Enrolling is not difficult. Point your browser to smile.amazon.com. Then enter your e-mail address and your Amazon password, and type “Esperanto-USA” as the non-profit. The name we are incorporated under is “Esperanto League For North America, Inc.” and that is what will come up. (This is an old incorporated name of E-USA and it is very expensive to change the name.) Press “Select.” That’s all there is to it — it’s taken longer to explain it than to do it.

All the customer has to do from then on is to browse on smile.amazon.com instead of just amazon.com. (If you sign on to amazon.com, you may get a reminder about Amazon Smile.) Amazon will take care of the rest. You can also keep track of how much money you have generated for E-USA and that’ll make you feel good. It may even make you smile.
