After a stint on the Board of Directors from 2018 to 2019, I’ve remained an active volunteer with Esperanto-USA, and in March the Board appointed me to replace outgoing Treasurer Murray Merner. Little did we all know the grave situation that lay ahead. What an interesting time to be placed in charge of a nonprofit’s finances.

Fortunately, according to the latest indications, Esperanto-USA has been little affected by the instability that’s rocking financial markets. The funds you’ve entrusted to us, whether you’re a new Duolingo learner or a decades-long life member, remain solidly in place. Thanks to you, and to the careful planning of Treasurers gone before, we will continue our mission of promoting Esperanto in the US in 2020 and beyond.

In my new role I’ll be working closely with Bill Harris, Director of the Central Office. In accordance with our bylaws, the Director of the CO has long been entrusted to receive and disburse funds under the Treasurer’s oversight. Bill works hard to manage E-USA’s day-to-day operations, and I look forward to collaborating with him in this new capacity.

I’d like to thank Murray Merner for his outstanding work as Treasurer and for his efforts to ensure an orderly transition. He and Bill have taken the time to explain everything I needed to know to get started with the job. I wish Murray the best of luck in his endeavors.

What’s more, I look forward to serving you again as a member of the Board of Directors. If you have any questions or concerns about Esperanto-USA, you can contact me directly at jordon at kalilich dot c o m, or you can contact the Board at board at esperanto-usa dot o r g.
