Esperanto-USA is working to republish out-of-print classics from the Baza legolisto so that future generations can enjoy them in free ebook and low-cost print versions. We’ve secured copyrights and scanned in old paper editions; now we need volunteers to help us proofread the scans and weed out scanning errors.
At our proofreading website provlegi we’re using a version of the Distributed Proofreaders software, which makes it easy for volunteers to contribute at any time, from almost anywhere. It divides the work into page-sized chunks, presenting images and scanned text side-by-side in a single web page. Corrections you make in the web page are resubmitted back to the site.
Anyone can help, regardless of skill level in Esperanto; all you need are an Internet connection, a web browser, and some patience. Even if each volunteer proofreads only a page per day, the results can add up quickly.
