The Bookmark Contest has come to a close and we have chosen our winners! I have the honor to present to you the top winners from the 12 entries submitted. This was open to persons of all countries and we had an international cast of winners.
I hope you enjoy viewing the winning bookmarks as much as I enjoyed being able to chair this contest!
Bookmark Judging Process
I sent images of all of the bookmarks, without revealing names and emails of the entrants, to our three judges Myrtis Smith, Andy Blair and Evie Liu. They were responsible for choosing the bookmarks they liked the best.
First Prize and the winner of $250 is:
Abigael Jepkorir from Eldoret, Kenya for the “Butterfly Bookmark”! Abigael is 29 years old and learned about Esperanto in February 2024. She was also elected president of the Women’s Esperanto Association in Kenya. She is still enthusiastically studying the language online using YouTube, audio and paperbacks.
Runner-up and winner of $100 is:
Rachel Canavese from Alameda, California for her “Faces Bookmark”! She is 16 years old and lives with her parents, cat, dog, and baby chicks. Her sister taught her Esperanto five years ago. In her spare time, she likes to run and read.
Acknowledgements
First and foremost I would like to thank Chuck Mays for his assistance and support while organizing and planning many of the details. I’d also like to thank my other fellow members of the Promotion Committee — Will Morton and Murray Merner — for their help and input in organizing the contest. I am also very proud of the work of our three judges Myrtis Smith, Andy Blair and Evie Liu. Lastly, thanks to Amanda Schmidt for her suggestions and for helping the winners get paid.
