SUMMER BULLETIN- 1959 (June - August) ESPERANTO ASSOCIATION OF NORTH AMERICA, 114 W. 16 ST., NEW YORK 11, N. Y. Dear Fellow-Member: With this issue of the Bulletin we are sending the May number of "British Esperdntist" to all members whose memberships are paid to July 1st or later. Your renewal date is indicated after your address on the envelope, and if your renewal is now due, please send at once so you will continue to receive the maga- zine and also aid preparations for stepping up activities in the Fail. Your attention to this matter of re- newals will be greatly appreciated. Also send your suggestions re candidates for the 1959 election of of- ficers, as suggested in the previous April-May Bulletin. Please do so immediately. AMERICAN ESPERANTO LIBRARY: We wish to report developments to date. In general, this impor- tant project is progressing very well now. More and mote the Esperantists in America, and particularly the members of your Association, see the need for this Library-, so that the many books of earlier years may be safely conserved in the hands of devoted trustees and curator and in an "Esperanto-Domo" where they may be available for research and study, etc. It will contain not only a tremendous number of books otherwise unavailable, but also all recent publications, too, of course. There will also be files of the most important Esperanto magazines, and various valuable documents. A number of generous contributions have already been made, but much more is needed to make for a truly COMPLETE institution. Note, that a goodly number of bc.oks from previous efforts, already collected and paid for, now are a part of the Library. And, there are books donated by your EANA in the collection, rlowever, despite good progress, there are also many books which will require at least wholesale payments, to make a complete collection. There must be no profit for anyone in this venture, but there must be necessary funds for es- tablishing a truly great Library. We urge every member to contribute something, and those who can afford larger amounts to come forth NOW, so that we can have the Library pretty well in hand by Fall. Since our announcements in previous Bulletins, proposals have come in for curators and a place to locate the books. We are happy to report that three possibilities have come in to the Central Office — all locations in and about New York City. However, if you find further opportunity in any direction, please let us know about it, since the three locations mentioned are largely tentative, dependent upon further negotiations, with some problems involved. The entire picture at this time is very optimistic, except for further funds which will be needed to assure real success for the Esperanto Library. We wish now to announce a list of contributors to date, with total sums thus far contributed. We be- lieve this is an accurate list. However, over the past few years various small amounts were alloted to Library Fund by various members, when ordering books, paying dues, etc, which may have been placed in Sustaining Fund. So, while we believe all names are included below, we ask that if you contributed and do not find your name listed, please write us at once, since we wish an accurate accounting. Here are the names and total amount today. More detailed listings will be published in the Fall: Peter T. Barbatsuly Austin Herschel Antonio Romilo Gerald Boulet Allan Hutcheon John T, Scofield Hal Carroll Russell R. Lambert Joel Silverman C. C. Cummingsmith, S. M. William Miernicki William P. Vathis Esperanto Society of N.Y, Abraham II. Okun . . Lou Harrison Peter Tan AMOUNT TO DATE - S 211.07 Those above who have contributed considerable sums, or donated several times to the Library Fund are: Cummingsmith, Esp. Society of N. Y., Herschel, and Okun. In addition to funds contributed, there have been various sources from which books have been contributed, and these will be listed in later re- ports. So a start has been made which is quite promising. We now suggest that each and every member give at least a small amount to the Library Fund. Send your contributions, large or small, so that we may announce real progress in amounts given, and add your name to the Library Honor Roll. BUY BOOKS NOW AT LOW PRICES: In previous announcements, we have suggested that another way to aid yourself and your Association is to order books in good -quantity NOW. We have suggested that in- stead of the usual annual appeal for general sustaining funds, that you accomplish a similar purpose by ordering at this time, as many books as possible. We emphasize this point NOW in order to clear our stocks for renewed activities in the Fall, and while present LOW and SALES prices are in effect. Yes, ORDER YOUR BOOKS NOW. Note that if your order comes to over $10 (list prices) you take a direct 10% discount; if over $20 you take 15%; and if you order over $50 worth you take 20%. This is definitely the time to benefit both yourself and your Association through sizeable book orders. Do you have our Book Lists? RE MAY ISSUE OF "BRITISH ESPERANTIST": To our surprise, we note advertising by the British Esperanto Ass'n and the U.E.A. in this issue, soliciting (and. with praise) subscriptions to the Com- munist propaganda magazine in Esperanto, "El Popola Cinio". Please note that we are not responsible for such advertising, and we do not accept subscriptions to said magazine. Cordially yours, / .,,, ,.
