Dear Fellow-Member: No doubt you've been wondering just where the American Esperanto Magazine is these days. So here's the story: We at the Central Office have been very busy, it is true. Many new members have been joining EANA. We have been checking book inventories and trying to get new lists out for the benefit of members. And there have been other important developments. One of these seems to bear much promise for the fu- ture unification of all Esperantists in North America into one neutral organization. Certain negotiations are in progress and we will be concentrating a good deal Of attention on this matter in the months ahead. So in line with the above developments we have arranged to send the excellent MONTHLY magazine British Esperantist to alj members of EANA, beginning1 with the April 1959 number. The British Esperan- tist is a fine quality, prihted magazine of 20 pages, with articles in English and Esperanto, reviews of Esperanto books, and news of activities in the Esperanto movement. Thus instead of the American Espe- ranto Magazine all members of EANA in good standing from April 1959 on, will receive the British Espe- rantist until summer. (You can check when your renewal is due by looking at your address label. The figures after your name give the month and year when your renewal is due,) The April issue will reach you soon. This arrangement will make it possible for the General Office to have a few months respite be- fore again returning to the heavy labors connected with regularly bringing out a 32-page AE- But we shall be sending occasional AE Bulletins along with the monthly British Esperantist. However, in order to compensate in some measure for the missing January-February issue of AE, we are enclosing herewith a special book premium. You will find the enclosed book to be a translation of a famous story by de Maupassant. It should provide much good reading in addition to detailed notes on many phases of Esperanto grammar. If you already have a copy of the enclosed book, and cannot use an extra copy in your Esperanto promotion, we will be pleased to send you another selection. Just let us know. We also enclose a new list of Esperanto books available from the Book Service of EANA. Usually at this time, in a New Year's Bulletin, we ask for contributions from members to the Sustaining Board of EANA. However, this year let me urge you to purchase books in the amount of your usual contribution. Select some of the good titles printed in List No. 6 (and all other Lists) and send your order to EANA to- day. You will help your EANA tremendously by giving cash to replace book inventories and thus provide the means for the everyday functioning of the Central Office. In addition YOU will benefit because you will receive good Esperanto books for your reading pleasure. Send your order NOW. We pay all postage costs. NOTE: Members will receive 10% discount in Book Dividend Coupons for orders over a dollar; or if you order in amount over $10, just take a direct cash discount of 10%; or if your order is $20 or more then deduct a straight discount of 15%. And for real bibliophiles, if your order is $50 or more, deduct a 20% cash discount. AMERICAN ESPERANTO LIBRARY (New Library Fund): In response to the appeal for contributions to the American Esperanto Library Fund, as printed in the Nov-Dec issue of AE, several contributions have come into the Central Office. These sums range from $1.00 to $10.00 thus far, and over a hundred dollars worth of books at wholesale prices are assured, in addition to many books already in the Library. This is a good beginning in view of the fact that the matter has not as yet been adequately presented to the membership. However, in the near future, a full report will be made in an AE Bulletin. What is needed now are contributions, large or small, to increase the Library Fund. If a few large contributions, i.e.. from $50 to $100 or more were to come in to the Fund, the project would be a complete success. Won't YOU contribute, as is possible, now? With sincere good wishes and in hope that you will understand and assist during this interval. Cordially yours, JDc^iucvT'. Co-r\^er^~- lot the Central Office P.S. Members of EANA who already subscribe to the British Esperantist may select books to the value of these substitute issues. Please let us know your wishes in this matter and we will send details with Special Book List from which you may select books. P.P.S. This Bulletin with Book List is also being sent to members whose renewals we have not received as yet, and therefore we do not include the above book, "General Language Course". However, upon receipt of your renewal, we will be happy to send this book plus an additional premium book as previously announced, i.e. "Edinburgh Pocket.Dictionary," "De Paĝo al Paĝo," "Interpopola Konduto," "Maria kaj U Grupo,""La Longa Vojo," "La Mistero de l'Sango," "Radianta Lotuso'."
