We say 'Good Morning', 'Good Evening', with never a thought as to the meaning we ex-
press - it is purely automatic, but when we say "MERRY CHRISTMAS", coming as it does
but once a year, we most truly mean it.  And just what do we mean? We mean that we
hope for you a Christmas filled with Joy and Happiness - a Christmas in which you
have that beneficent inward feeling which is in the very atmosphere - a feeling of
GOOD WILL.
We know there is something about the Christmas season that is really sublime.  Some
way or other, in the air we breathe, we inhale that spirit of GOOD WILL.
It does not matter what you believe - you may be Mohammedan or Jew, Heathen or Christ-
ian, holy and sinless, or a rank outsider with the opinion that all the world is ag-
ainst you. But when this joyful season comes, into the very fibres of your being
there permeates this universal spirit of GOOD Y/ILL.
And now, with our faces toward the future which we hope may be filled with Happiness
and Prosperity, I wish you, One and All, with all my heart

The Duluth (Minn.) "Herald" of Oct. 25 announced in a very friendly article a begin-
ner's course in Esperanto to be given by our National Treasurer, Miss A. J. Kruka,
who is visiting her sister there.

A Finnish daily, "Paivalehti", (Duluth, Minn»), also printed an article on Esperanto
which attracted a number of students, resulting in a class of more than 40.
Miss Kruka tells us that some of the members of the classes she has been teaching in
Duluth came a distance of thirty miles to attend the classes. She also says, "When
I came here, any time I mentioned 'Esperanto' some one would say, "Oh yes, he's a
pretty good horse, I notice he's been winning in several races."
All things Esperantic are good-even a horse called 'Esperanto' is among the winners
in many races, according to the 'clippings' about him which we receive from various
sections of the country.  Just noticed in one of the English papers they also have a
winning horse called 'Esperanto-those horses are like Nia Afero-coming to the front
fast.

Salutonl All the friends (and who that have known them are not) of this splendid
family will be delighted to know that S-ro Kurt Fritzsching, his estimable wife, and
two charming daughters have returned from Europe. S-ro Fritzsching is one of the
'Best' in Esperanto circles, and has used the Kara Lingvo in many lands. He has been
connected with the German Diplomatic Service many years. Bonvenu.
The "European Herald" (110 Fleet St., London E.C.4) a paper issued in several differ-
ent languages, announces it's decision, in issue of September 28, 1934.'from no?; on
to include in the "European Herald" regularly every week three features in Esperanto."
Three months subscription to the "Herald" for one dollar -- We take them.
The Toronto (Ont.) "Star" of recent date had an excellent illustrated article on
Esperanto by Martin J. Roberts, covering more than half a page and containing a well
written interview with Mr. David R, Pook, Secretary of the Toronto Esperanto Chapter,
giving a clear presentation of the advantages of the study of Esperanto and the
present state of the movement.  The "Star", Messrs. Roberts and Pook, and Esperanto
are entitled to congratulations from all Esperantists.

Another subject for congratulation is the fact that the Toronto University has added
Esperanto to its list of subjects - a large class of Esperanto students having en-
rolled for that subject at the recent opening.

It has long been known that the best aid to understanding in Diplomatic intercourse
is in speaking the same language. Now Wm. C. Bullit, American Ambassador to Russia,
and Premier Viacheslav M. Molotov, of USSR, are in a language learning race to end
August 15, '35» Bullit maintains English is easier to learn than Russian, Molotov
says  not. For the next several months Bullit will be learning Russian and Molotov
English.  They will then appear before a jury of the Diplomatic Corps, each to
answer 50 questions in the other's language»
FIRST ACCIDENT IN HIS LIFE -
AFTER TRAVELING THROUGH 47 COUNTRIES.
Reports and inquiries seem to circulate that our Propaganda Cefo, Joseph R. Scherer,
was seriously hurt in a road accident in Massachusetts. One samideano wrote to
another, back and forth between Los Angeles and New York, and by now Mr» Scherer is
supposed to be dead.
To quiet the minds of Samideanoj, whom Mr. Scherer has made his friends during his
lecture tours through Usono, we are glad to say, we have received word from Mr.
Scherer direct»
On a rainy Saturday, in September, he was forced off the road near Amherst, Mass. by
a Chevrolet Sedan that was speeding uphill on a curve at 50 miles. Although Mr»
Scherer drove not more than 10 miles an hour down-hill on the- slippery road, when off
the pavement, he lost control of his House Trailer and then also of his Buick Sedan.
He managed to land on heavy underbrush, 50 feet off the road, without turning over
or the slightest damage to his ear, and without the slightest injury to himself and
his mother» But his luxurious, completely equipped "Rolling Home Green Star" was
completely wrecked, and its contents were scattered all over the road, kitchen equip-
ment, walls, roof, windows, cloths, varnish, books, etc all mixed up.  It took them
six hours to pick up the wreckage in the heavy rain. Undiscouraged^ our globtrotulo
had his "Home" rebuilt for over $400, his clothes cleaned and papers resorted during
three hectic weeks and went on to Ohio. Although a number of contracts were lost,
he secured others, and gave in Cleveland, Ohio, alone, nine illustrated lectures,
and about thirty-five in Illinois. Result—-several new classes»
Fortunately none of his cameras, projectors, slides, films and similar equipment were
damaged in the least, as they had been kept in the car.  Kuraĝe antaŭen.

Although the Washington Esperantists did not gain a prize in the Halloween Parade,
as they did in the «33 Parade, they made a fine showing:  "Here come the Esperantists",
"Oh that's the new international language",  "That looks like the "Eastern Star", but
it says Esperanto", were some of the comments of bystanders as the Esperantists went
by with their big green star, Esperanto sashes and banners.
Peace will not come to the worl by warships, but by friendships,- Mrs. Ella Boole,
President of the International W.C.T»U», says, and it is this increase of friendships
that is being accomplished through Esperanto.  From thousands of "unknown Esperantists"
throughout the world friendly letters are being sent to Esperantists of other countries
and thus is being laid a foundation for a better understanding, which will make for
peace» War may, and must, be waged by regimentation, but peace is a state of mind and
Esperanto is one of "the things which make for peace" for by its means people may com-
mune with those of like mind in many different lands.

Desiring to stimulate and encourage the members of EANA to put forth their best
efforts for a great enlargement of the Association's membership, I am ready to sup-
plement the premium offer (based on the gifts of another) as already announced by
the Central Office in the November Amerika Esperantisto, through providing for
ELEVEN PRIZES on a competitive basis, to the Eleven Men or Women who shall bring in
*ne largest number of New Members before next July.
The Association now owes me $120 for the "Esperanto Course for Beginners", which I
printed and v/hich is my personal property.  In order to reduce its debt and to
strengthen its membership, I offer to cancel this entire amount if the members will
rise to their opportunities and win these eleven prizes, (or a proportionate amount
if any prizes should chance to be left unearned.)
One First Prize, a fifteen year membership to yourself, worth $1.50 per year.  Three
Second Prizes, each a ten year membership, and seven Third Prizes, each a five year
membership.  The only numerical restriction is that the first prize will not be
awarded for less than fifteen new members, nor the second and third prizes for less
than ten and five respectively. I join the Central Office in hoping that the com-
petition will prove keen, with scores for the winners much higher than these minimum
figures.

by the proceeds from sales of this 'course' will be donated by him to provide prizes
for the eleven members of EANA who shall bring into the North-American organization
the largest number of NEW MEMBERS between October 1st just past and July 1st, 1935.
The Central Office will keep careful records of members thus recruited and these
prizes will be awarded next July to those members in U.S.A. or in Canada who shall
recruit within the period named the highest number of New Members.  The only numeri-
cal restriction being that shown in the offer from Mr. Sussmuth printed above. Read
these announcements until you kno?; them by heart~-and until your heart tells you
that you, must be one of the many earnest competitors in this "raising bee" for the
walls of a new and stronger Esperanto structure in our North America.  Then refer

We must wait till our next issue to report on the Proverb Contest announced in the
November numbers  Meanwhile, here is another whet stone on which to sharpen our
wits. Remembering that an "idiom" is a national idiosyncrasy, while Esperanto is
universal, we find countless English phrases whose Esperanto equivalents must be
other than a literal translation.  Jen sep ekzeniploj:
"She was not cut out for a teacher."
"Their sister was an awful cut up."
"He tried to pass the buck."
"She has gone down town to do some shopping."
"He must have a pull with the boss."
"Oh, hang it.8 I forgot."
"His opinion was all wet."
Our next prize (a book from stock in hand) goes to the samideano who submits the
best Esperanto rendering of the above seven sentences. Your versions must be re-
ceived before January first by Mr. W. G. Adams, 212 University Building,

Mr. Hugo Gerisch, of Picton, Ont. - who formerly when in Germany headed an agency
which induced 264 newspapers to print weekly articles on Esperanto, and who in his
'own business advertised that all correspondence not in German must be in Esperanto-
has come as a volunteer to take the lead in publicity work in eastern Canada. The
following plan is his; but now it is ours, for the E A N A gladly accepts it as its
own for the whole of our txvo countries. Let every club select a publicity member who
will faithfully undertake to get a short propaganda article into one or more local
papers at least once a month-and oftener if feasible. And be sure to send the
clippings to the Central Office, so they can be counted in our statistics.  Or, if
you are an 'Izolulo' and your city has no club, then make yourself a committee of
one.  "Amerika Esperantos ■to" will help furnish ammunition by printing each month at
