TORONTO, Ont.: Local Chapter #20 held a
meeting during the recent visit of Mr. J.
J. Sussmuth, chairman of the Executive
Committee. All matters pertaining to the
coming Congress were arranged. The Toron-
to Star and Telegram had articles about
this arrangement which were reprinted by
the associated Press throughout Canada
and the United States.
NEW YORK, N.Y.: Mr. J. J. Sussmuth de-
livered a speech on Esperanto by special
invitation of the New York Technical
Society, March 8.  The sample lesson of
Esperanto given at the end of the speech
brought forth a number of requests for a
regular course in Esperanto.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Esperanto Benefit
Dance, attended by over fifty couples,
held in the Capitol City, Saturday, April
14th, was highly successful. Committee
members were Mrs. C.N. Lewis, Jane
Schiffman, A. Kumayong, Aminda Kruka.

SCIENCA REVUO: - The current issue of
Scienca Revuo, Madison, Wis., is crowded
with interesting scientific material on a
variety of themes. Contributions are
printed from England, Chile, Russia, as
well as Usono, Our country may be proud
that it is giving to the world's Esperan-
tistaro the only periodical devoted to
general scientific subjects.
TENTATIVE PLAN OF MR. VILLAREAL
1.  The printing of postage stamp and
postcard by the United States Post Office
Department in honor of the founder of the
International Auxiliary Language-
Esperanto.
2.  The teaching of Esperanto Language in
Military and Naval Schools of the United
States; including Military and Naval Re-
serves, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine.
3.  The printing of pamphlet, U.S. Guide
Book in Esperanto Language by the Depart-
ment of Commerce and the Patent Office
for sale or for distribution (free).
4.  Esperanto Language should be one of
the Languages required for the use of the
staff of Diplomatic and Consular service,
Custom House, all Civil Service, Immi-
gration, Post Office, Bureau of Standards
and other scientific bureaus' employees.
5.  The teaching of Esperanto in the
public schools in the District of Col-
umbia; the White House and the Metropoli-
tan Police Department may also be
included.

We learn through Samideano Herbert Gtfldberg
of Brooklyn that the municipality of the
City of Tel-Aviv, Palestine, has resolved
to name one of its new streets Zamenhoff
Street.
NEW TRANSLATION INTO ESPERANTO: -
The Bahai friends will be interested
to hear that the Bahai Hymns of Peace and
Praise by Shanaz Waite have been ably
translated into Esperanto by Mr. Ernest
Dodge, Pres. of Esperanto Interligo de
Washingtono. Publication of these hymns
is being considered.

Business compels further absence from
Washington but is enabling me to meet many
interesting Esperantists as I travel.
After leaving Miamit where I enjoyed
the company of our admired and influential
leader, Dr. Lydia De Vilbiss, and the
valuable "novulo", John H. Niemeyer, I
visited the "cigarj oity", Tampa.
Our earnest young delegito there, Paul
Smith, has a rich collection of souvenirs
of world correspondence. Another Tampa
helper is Mrs. J. D. De la Grana, a
natural leader* an artist and thinker.
Stopping at San Antonio, Texas, I
found a vigorous ally, William A. Plampin.
Write to him (1032 South Alamo Street) for
names of foreign correspondents. He has
more than he can handle. Bill and I are
both native New Yorkers who escaped from
the "urbego". We wish that Befthold
Schmidt and other New York City boneguloj
could have- been with us at San Antonio
that night.
The battle-scarred veteran* Dr. A*
Rudy, bobbed up in San Bernadinoj Calif.
He is an extraordinary salesman* Some
teaohers can hardly get students to pay
fifteen cents for beginners' books» He
gets five dollars from each student for
texts, and has a good-siaed class*
Riverside, Calif», is Etperanto-
conscious, thanks to our learned and
generous friend, Dr.- Howard B. Frost (30
years in the movement), and Mr* R. T.
Arnold, a scholarly, faithful delegito.
Fully 300 students and others there have
heard recent leotures by our Joseph
Scherer, and Dr. Rudy. An influential
helper there is Principal A. G. Paul of
the Junior College and Senior High School.
Reports from the Central Office are
inspiring. My opportunities for organiza-
tion work while traveling are improving.
Let us all do our best.

Mal estas rusa prefikso nemovebla, ne
lauvole uzebla. Gi sonas kiel la Esperanta,
kaj ankaS signifas same. Mal uzita memstare
estas rusa adjektivo signifanta "malgranda".
Nia angla vorto "small" estas fia vera
kuzino kaj ne la "mal" kiu entenas idedn
de netaugeco.
"Kontraii" ne estas sinonimo por "Mal".
Mal, antau' freŝa, bona, longa, kara, multe,
varma, juna, antau', kaj sana, ne egalas
"kontraŭ" same uzita. Pripensu en angla
lingvo. Malalta—small or not of much
height—Cu ne pli bone ol—contrary-height?
La vera kontraŭo de alta estas profunda.
Mal-larga signifas "ne posedanta multon da
larĝecoI
Kiam yorto entenas subkomprenitan ideon
de serio da agoj "mal" antau ĝi, signifigas
ke la serio estas komencita oe la lasta
punkto kaj ke fi iras de tie al la unua en
kontraua ordo. Mal-konstrui tial ne sig-
nifas "ruinigi" aed "Take down" aŭ
"enpartigi". Ma'lvindi signifus "depreni
tukon for de infano". Malorganizi signifus
dispartigi unuecon. Malordigi egalas al
aliordigi. Malferml, tiu malbenita verbo,
signifas serio da pozicioj tra kio pordo-
fermilo pasas de la unu pozicio de enireb-
leco al la alia de fermeco. Volemu ne
decidi kontrau tio gi» post konsulto en la
nacia vortaro kie vi trovus signifon de
pordo esti truo trapasebla. Pafi estas
nedaŭraga verbo kaj malpafi tial estas
sensenca vorto.
La bona verkisto uzas "mal" zorge,
konscie, klare, lau sia intencideo.
Ekzistas anstataŭvorto por tiuj jen:
malfreŝa.......putra,sala,las tjara
mallonga.......unuminuta.unupaga
malkara........prezeta,facile pagebla
malklara.......nubeca,dusenca
malvarma.......neĝeca,frosta,subnulpunkta
maljuna,......,a|a,multjara,grizhara
Kompreneble libro estus bezonita por
klarigi la ideon tute. Tamen la vulemulo
mem ellaboros la koncepton plu. Tiu pole-
miko ne estas kontrau "Mal" sed kontrau
Mal-uzo senpense.
"Malfermu la pordon" estas miskomprenita
de spertuloj, Cu? Supozu la pordo estas
fermita kaj mi estas ekstere. Mi dirus
"Enlasu min, ebligu eniron, fortiru au'
forpuŝu la pordon." Nenia eraro estas ebla.
Cu fenestro estas fermita? "Malfermu fenes-
tron" estas fuŝa esprimo. Kial ne diru
klare:"Tiru la fenestron suben kaj enlasu
iom da aeronfreia, mi estas tiel varma".
Nacia pensokupo kreas nian fusesprimon. Mi
vetus dolaron ke vi komparis anglan espri-
mon por taksi la frazon pri la fenestro.
